I volunteered at an event where Home Depot donated over 100 bird house kits from their free kids workshops. When I returned home, I put the kit together for my 3 year old daughter. She added the finishing touches by painting the house a rich purple (her favorite color). We set the finished project on the deck railing and placed bird seed in one of my daughters toy tea party dishes. So far, I haven’t seen any birds checking out the new house but the neighborhood cat seems to have taken a liking to the new treats.
Children 5-12 can make projects like this bird house each month when they attend a free Home Depot Kids workshop. In addition to newly constructed project kits, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates’ aprons, and an achievement pin.
