Its current building was constructed in 1924, paid for by a fundraising effort by the Women’s Club of Atlanta. At the time, the market was located in the exact geographic center of Atlanta and quickly became “the place to shop” for every Atlantan.

The market continues to cater to local residents who have shopped there for generations, including business people, downtown and in-town residents, as well as students from nearby Georgia State University. Its vendors offer a delightful range of foods from international dishes to fresh produce and prepared meals that are representative of Southern cuisine.
