As you get older you don’t have to lose your sense of amazement and wonder for animals. In fact, you can choose to learn even more about them by volunteering at Zoo Atlanta. Check out the details below.

The minimum age to volunteer is 18. Please read the information below about volunteering at the zoo. If this sounds interesting to you, click on the application link and fill out an application. You will then be contacted to set up an individual interview—the first step in the process of becoming a volunteer. Volunteers are recruited for all areas of the Zoo.

Zoo Atlanta volunteers agree to:

  • Maintain a current Zoo Atlanta membership
  • Commit a minimum of 1 year and 50 hours of service per year
  • Purchase and wear a designated uniform and badge while on zoo property volunteering for the service area(s) you serve (name badge=$5, volunteer polo=$25)
  • Abide by the rules and regulations set forth in the volunteer manual (a volunteer manual will be provided at orientation)
  • Attend designated training and continuing education classes for the service area(s) you serve
  • Report on time for scheduled events/service areas
  • Notify Volunteer Resources Department, in writing, of any change in volunteer status
  • Volunteer for current priority areas. Zoo Atlanta volunteers have many unique opportunities. Volunteers are a resource for current volunteer priority needs.

Zoo Atlanta agrees to provide volunteers:

  • Skills, training, and support materials needed for designated service area(s)
  • Continuing education program opportunities
  • Invitations to special zoo events and annual volunteer functions
  • Discounts at food concessions and trading posts (show badge)
  • Opportunities to develop new skills, make new friends, and learn about endangered species and conservation issues
  • A chance to make a difference while having fun!
